Individual flat vs student residence

Accommodation in France

🛏 Individual flat

✔️ Benefits:

– feel at home

– choose a flat at your taste

– you don’t pay agency fees if you book it with the owner directly

✖️ Inconveniences:

– if you don’t book through a specialized website for international students, they may ask you for a French guarantor

– if you don’t book through a secured website, you risk being scammed (get some tips here)

– the process is complicated if you don’t go through an agency (no answer received)

🚪 Student Residence

✔️ Benefits:

– you are surrounded by students of your age

– no scam risk

– a manager at the reception can help you

– some residences can have a modern living style with co-working, kitchen, and sport class…

– easy process

-most of them accept you to not have a French guarantor (check here the others options of guarantee)

✖️ Inconveniences:

– each flat is quite the same (maximum one bedroom flat)

– no personalized decoration

– some residences can be old and poorly maintained

– if you want to move in September/October, you will need to start paying your rent around July/August if you want proof for your visa (you can’t book it in advance in this period because it’s high season)
