Checklist of what you figure out before leaving your country
Administrative & Identity
1/Bank :
– Passeport
– A proof of address in France
-Visa
2/Visa validation :
To be done online so you need those documents only in soft copy :
– Your VISA number is located at the top right of your VISA
– Your French address (they won’t send you mails so if it’s a temporary one it’s not an issue)
Tax stamp for 50€. This can be purchased during the online process. Some international bank
cards work.
3/CAF :
In soft copy :
– Passport
– The accommodation agrement
– French bank details (RIB) in your name
– Your birth certificate
– The French translation of your birth certificate made by an official translator (only if the original is not in English or Spanish)
– If you have worked the current year and the year before: the monthly amount of your income (no document, just the amount converted in €)
– The «attestation de loyer» form filled in by your owner/real estate agency : https://school.

– Visa (for non Europeans)
– Visa validation (for non Europeans)
– Proof of income (only for Europeans)
4/CVEC :

– Enrolment letter
5/OPEN AN ELECTRICITY ACCOUNT :
In soft copy :
– French or European bank details (RIB)
– PDL number (ask your land-owner)
– HP AND HC numbers (ask your land-owner)
– French phone number
6/SOCIAL HEALTH SECURITY :
In soft copy :
– Passport
– Enrolment letter
– Visa
– Visa validation
– Birth certificate
– French translation of your birth certificate made by an official translator
– School certificate or a copy of your student card (different than enrolment letter)
– French bank details (RIB)

7/THE COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH INSURANCE/MUTUAL :
In soft copy :
– Your temporary social security number
– French bank details (RIB) to be debited each month
– A credit card to pay the first subscription (even international)
Medical
Vaccination records
Copies of any important medical records
Prescriptions for any medications you take, and information on the drug’s formula so you can easily find its French equivalent
Refill any prescriptions for 2-3 months
Stock up on your favorite over-the-counter medications and vitamins (Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Excedrin,neosporin, isopropyl alcohol, benadryl, children’s tylenol, cold and flu medicine, cough drops, to name a few.)
Driving license
Driver’s license, with AAA “international” driver’s license if possible
Driving record from your state, showing your driver’s license date of issue
Try to ensure you have a driver’s license that can be exchanged for a French license

Banking
Inform your bank that you will be traveling overseas so they don’t flag your account for fraud when you use your card or log into online banking.
How to correctly write your French address to be sure to receive your mails ?
When you write your French address to receive your transportation card, your bank and
CAF mails… make sure to give your exact address, with the proper name on the mailbox
and your flat number if you have one. If you don’t correctly fill in this part, you never will
receive your mails.
If you live in a student residence : write the name of the residence + flat number + number and name of the street + ZIP code and city
If your name is not on the mailbox : write your name + chez + name o
