Our gas and electricity consumption habits can be pretty expensive, and you might be surprised when looking at your bill when you receive it. This article will tell you how to find an electricity and gas provider that will help you save money and do something positive for the environment during your stay in France.
What’s Ekwateur?
One fact about the electricity transmission system in France is that the electricity that flows within it doesn’t change, no matter which provider you have. What makes the difference between electricity providers is their prices and environmental impact. This is what you should be paying attention to when making your choice and it is for this reason we recommend Ekwateur.
Ekwateur is the first independent green energy provider in France. It offers green electricity as well as renewable and natural gas. Their objective is to offer solutions that are less expensive and most importantly, more environmentally friendly.
The platform also offers renewable firewood and self-consumption solutions such as solar panels.
How does it help you save money while respecting the environment?
In this article, we were giving you tips on how to reduce your electricity consumption. Ekwateur is another great solution to achieve this.
It offers several solutions that all have the same environmental effects but different economic impacts for you.
Ekwateur lets you choose between a classic or a Premium subscription for electricity. Both are supporting the local producers they are working with. Indeed, they have several collaborations with electrical production plants in France. The difference between the 2 options is that the Premium subscription is more expensive but benefits more directly small producers.
Ekwateur’s actions in terms of gas are the use of biomethane. It is a 100% renewable gas that comes from organic decomposition. There are also 2 options for gas subscriptions. The first one is the 100% offer, all of your gas consumption is bought from French biogas producers to be injected into the gas system. The second one is the 5% offer, where 5% of your total gas consumption is bought and injected. It is a cheaper option that still lets you have a positive impact on the environment.
They also have a blog to give you tips on how to reduce your electricity and gas consumption and learn more about the energy transition.
Why you should choose green electricity and Ekwateur as your provider?
Green electricity has many advantages. First, it comes from inexhaustible sources and it is clean energy that is environment friendly since it almost doesn’t release any greenhouse gases. It also helps to reduce your electricity and gas expenses. Most importantly, it enables you to easily act to protect the environment.
Choosing Ekwateur adds even more benefits by letting you subscribe simply and quickly to their services. They also make your experience easier by guiding you to find the offer that suits you best. They manage to do all this while being less expensive and more transparent with their customers than most electricity providers in France. On top of that, it doesn’t change your habits at all!
When to apply?
It depends on if you have a “linky meter” or “a normal meter”. Ask your residence to give you this information and if you have the electricty in your flat. If not, you have to do the request online:
- Minimum 3 days before arrival (If you have a linky meter): When they ask you to enter the date of the activation of your electricity “date de mise en service” you need to choose one day before your arrival then send them an email to make sure you will have the electricity on your arrival ([email protected])
- Minimum 15 days before arrival (If you have a normal meter): when they ask you to enter the date of the activation of your electricity “date de mise en service” you chose 14 days before your arrival date (if you are arriving in less than 14 days, contact them by email: [email protected]). Once you finish your subscription, make sure that you will have your electricity when you arrive because since you don’t have a Linky meter, you might need to pay extra fees to have a technician come to your place and activate the electricity.
- If you are arriving in less than 48 hours, or you are already in your flat, you can’t open the electricity account online, you need to call Ekwateur so that they can open it for you. If you don’t have a Linky meter, you will have a different paying options to active your electricity line in an emergency.
🧐What do you need to know/have before applying?
- Check if you need to open an electricity account according to your accommodation.
- Ask your residence to give you the PDL number and the HP and HC numbers.
- Ask the residence if you need gas too, if this is the case ask them for the PCE number.
- You can apply before arrival especially if there is no electricity in your flat (ask your owner about that). If there is electricity, it’s less urgent but you need to do it at least on your first days.
- If electricity is not included in your rent and you don’t open an account, the electricity will be cut and you will have to pay up to 150€ to have a technician come quickly to re-open the line.
Prices of a subscription for electricity start at 11.12€ and 10€ for gas, not including energy consumption.
