Subscribing to the French phone plan is highly recommended. If you keep your original plan from your country, it will be very expensive, except for European students that benefit from Europe Roaming:
When you travel outside your EU home country to another EU country, you don’t have to pay any additional charges to use your mobile phone. This is known as “roaming” or “roaming like at home”. Your calls (to mobile and fixed phones), text messages (SMS), and data services are charged at domestic rates (the same price as calls, texts, and data within your home country).
You can read this article if you want to know more about the different SIM cards that you can use in France.
In France there are 2 types of operators: classics and low prices (recommended)
We do not recommend classic brands because a commitment of one or two years is required. Low cost never requires any commitment.
Example :
Classic brands: Orange, SFR, Bouygues
Low cost: Sosh (apartment in Orange), RED (apartment in SFR), B&you (apartment in Bouygues)
With classic brands, you will find stores almost everywhere but the problem with low cost brands is that you can only subscribe online and in case of problems you have to talk to them via social networks or by discuss, in French. Their websites are also only in French.
We offer you the Free brand because it is the only low cost that stores in France offer and it will be easier for you to get help. But of course if you speak French, you can easily register on the site you choose. There are regular ephemeral promotions.
Example of price difference:
SFR: €27.99/month for 60 GB of internet (+ 60 GB in Europe), unlimited calls and SMS, 2-year commitment vs RED: €6.99/month for 680 GB of internet (+ 19 GB in Europe), unlimited calls and SMS
